Calving Time

The fall calves have begun arriving. I went to check the heifers this morning and noticed one that seemed to be thinking about calving. She happened to be where I could see her from the house, so I kept watch on her every so often through the window with the binoculars. A couple hours later she was lying down, so I went back out to the pasture and found her with a brand new calf. Here she is cleaning him off.

A couple hours after that, he was up looking for an afternoon snack.

I'm not sure, but think he might have been born this morning. He still looks a little wobbly, don't you think? :)
