Never Wear a Rooster on Your Head...

For one thing, they're not the right shape to keep the sun off your face, and for another, it's just simply not comfortable. How do I know this? Remember the chicks I showed you? Well, now they've turned into hens and roosters.

We've started turning them out of their small chicken house to peck around in the yard. I had noticed that at least one of the roosters acted like he was going to have a mean streak one day when I was getting the water dish out to fill it. I held the feed can out in front just in case he tried anything, and he jumped up and hit the can. Well, this morning I let them out of their house and went to get them some water. I came back, poured the water out of my five-gallon bucket, and here he came. He acted like he was coming after me, so I thought I'd get the jump on him and show him who was boss by giving him a thump with the bucket. When I did that, he flew straight up in the air about six feet and came down on my head!! Yes, you heard me right, on my head. He didn't stay long, though. I'm not sure if it was the flailing around or the screeching, but he got off. (I was the one, by the way, doing the flailing and screeching.) In a parting shot, I rolled the bucket at him and left to do the other chores thinking mean thoughts about roosters.

I've got a couple of small scratches on my neck and head, but nothing major. I guess I'll have to start carrying the broom with me when I feed the chickens. Or maybe a baseball bat.

Oh my ,I've heard they are mean! Reminds me of 'Cold Mountain' when the rooster terrorizes Ada..didn't end well for the rooster!

I'm sure it scared the daylights out of you (or it would have me!) but ... I started laughing when I read your post. Just the mental picture. Glad you're OK and you showed him who is boss!
