Animals are Taking Over the Blog!!!

I really have been spinning and dyeing up yarn, but you wouldn't know it from looking at the blog lately. It seems as though the animals have taken over! :) The lambs have begun arriving...five so far. Here are a couple of them:

The first one is one of a set of twins belonging to our sheep, Hannah.

The next one belongs to our sheep, Scarlett. This is her first lamb. We usually try to get them in the barn or in a private pen when they're about ready to lamb, but Scarlett had hers before we thought she was ready. The lamb was outside and got a little chilled, making her weak enough that she wouldn't try very hard to get up and eat. I finally called my husband, and he came home from work so we could help her get something to eat. He held the ewe steady in the corner, while I milked out a little colostrum in a cup. Then I gave some to the lamb with a syringe (no needle, of course) while she sucked on my finger. Hoping that would give her a little energy, we wanted her to try to eat on her own. He held the ewe in the corner again while I helped the lamb find the right spot and begin to eat. It really isn't as simple as that sounds, as you know if you've ever tried it. But she finally found it, and seemed to think it was pretty tasty. By that evening she was up and finding it on her own without any trouble. Whew, what a relief!

Congrats on your expanding family! 5 new lambs; that's a lot, right?
So how many sheep do you have now?

There are ten ewes and one ram, not counting the lambs.
