In order to get lambs by around the end of February, you have to let the ram in with the ewes by around the end of September. So a little over a week ago we let Max in the lot with the ewes. Max is pleased.

I had a wild idea the other day. I've seen several Sock Yarn-of-the-Month clubs, and I thought, "Maybe I should try that." Okay, I guess that's not really wild, but you get the idea. Anyway, I'm trying it out and have a few memberships available (I thought I should start out small). It's a three-month membership; members receive one skein of hand painted sock yarn per month for the months of October, November, and December. You can find out more here. We got BabyDollSouthDown sheep last spring. Well, I should say my husband did. He will be putting Aries in with the girls at the end of November. None of these lambs will go to market. Who would pay $500 to eat one of those little darlings?
I think I have him convinced that we can put coats on four this year. Hoping their fiber is nice.
I've always thought those sheep are SOOO cute! We should have put coats on our Rambouillets, too. There was too much VM in the roving to suit me without the coats, but it would have cost a fortune to get it processed as much as it should have been. This was the first time we'd had Rambouillet fiber done, but I guess we learned something.
